Import iCal to Outlook.com Calendar (formerly Hotmail)

Outlook.com

We all know about the ‘new’ Outlook.com. It’s nice. It’s real nice. Now, let’s learn how to import an iCal (calendar) in to Outlook.com…

Open Outlook.com and go to CALENDAR. I’m assuming you have already have saved whatever iCal you want to import somewhere on your computer.

Click on SUBSCRIBE in the Outlook.com calendar (pictured below):

Outlook.com will then take you to a page where you can select browse for the iCal file and upload it. You will have several options after that to choose from but that’s it really. Nothing to it…

Do-Not-Track: Internet Explorer 10

-Via MajorGeeks.com

When version 10 of Internet Explorer is published, it will default to sending the “Do-not-track” header (DNT).
DNT will be enabled in the “Express Settings” Windows setup process. But there will be a “Customize” option that will allow users to stop the DNT header being sent. Microsoft’s Chief Privacy Officer Brendon Lynch says that this is consistent with Microsoft’s approach to customer privacy and underscores that it is a top priority for the company.

DNT is an initiative promoted by Mozilla and Google that is designed around sending an HTTP header to web sites informing them that the user does not wish to be tracked by the site’s operators. It relies on the cooperation of the web site operators to work. Microsoft had promoted its own “Tracking lists” proposal, which is based around preventing the logging of user behavior.

Microsoft Introduces New Outlook.com Email

Via the Microsoft Outlook Blog:

Webmail was first introduced with HoTMaiL in 1996. Back then, it was novel to have a personal email address you could keep for life – one that was totally independent from your business or internet service provider. Eight years later, Google introduced Gmail, which included 1 GB of storage and inbox search. And while Gmail and other webmail services like Hotmail have added some features since then, not much has fundamentally changed in webmail over the last 8 years – though yesterday’s frustrations about the small size of inboxes are now things of the past. At the same time, email is becoming less and less useful as inboxes become cluttered with newsletters and social updates, and people increasingly keep up their personal connections in social networks instead of their email address books. All of this has led many to hope for a better solution so you don’t have to settle for today’s webmail.

“A lot has changed in the last eight years, and we think it’ time for a fresh look at email – modern, connected, smart, powerful, and in control. So try out the preview at Outlook.com. We think you’ll like what you see”.
